Artist Statement

Having survived unspeakable trauma’s, Jaene’s art is a proclamation of self-love in the face of erasure and adversity. Feeling silenced by misconceived notions, she reframes her experiences to transform from surviving to thriving. Jaene’s work represents the power of marginalized voices; enabling her to challenge stigma while shedding light on oppression. Through this journey we recognize the validity of fringe voices and lived experiences, which allow us to appreciate the beauty and diversity of humanity.

Instructor Information

Jaene F. Castrillon is an self taught artist who explores her relationship to the world through various spiritual teachings and the wisdom of the land. Jaene’s work has been screened at Rendezvous with Madness Film Festival and imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival. In 2014 Jaene was one of the 8 recipients of the prestigious LIFT Filmmentor program. In 2015 she was awarded the 11th annual LIFT/imagineNATIVE Mentorship and is currently the Media Artist in Residence for Workman Arts.
